Acute appendicitis and ultrasonographic findings

Acute appendicitis is one of the most common and challenging surgical emergencies, and can lead to appendiceal perforation and peritonitis, which are concomitant with high mortality and morbidity. The diagnosis is usually based on patient history, physical examination and laboratory testing making up the clinical presentation of acute appendicitis. Ultrasonography is very helpful to determine the diagnosis – appendicitis. In this review article the authors resents the sonographic image of a normal appendix and appendiceal pathologies verified by surgical laparotomy with appendectomy. Correct diagnosis to brings reduction of unnecessary appendectomy.
